I know you are all dying to know more about the rally, the van, and the men crazy enough to try this … unfortunately, I have very little answers at this time. I’ll post what I know for now, but please post your questions and I’ll do my best to pry the answers out of them the next time we speak.
What is BABE Rally?
BABE stands for Big Apple to Big Easy and is a journey from New York to New Orleans in 4 days. For more details, read about BABE2007.
Who is Team Rickety Van?
Caleb, Greg, Jason, and Tim met while working as programmers at Course Development & Web Services. They enjoy cars, road trips, and crazyness … so it seemed like the perfect fit.
What are you driving?
A 1971 VW Bus Westfalia/Camper
How did you hear about the BABE Rally?
Caleb heard about it somewhere (internet). See the post Starting From the Past for details.
What possessed you to do this?
See the post Starting From the Past.
How did you choose your team/van name?
official answer coming soon … kitzzy’s guess: because they bought a rickety van that barely ran at the time
How many miles does that van have on it?
… coming soon …
What kind of mechanic equipment/spare parts did you bring with you?
official answer coming soon … kitzzy’s guess: $70 worth of spare parts (everything they will need according to Jason), full tool kit, fire extinguisher (not that they’ll ever need it), and lots of duct tape.
How are you blogging from the road?
On Tim’s sidekick (apparently in secret from his team mates … hmm), and from various laptops wherever free wi-fi is available.
Do you have pictures of the trip?
Boy do we ever! There is a whole flickr group full of picture, and there will be more as soon as the boys find a wi-fi connection.
Can I donate to your cause?
Sure thing! You can send us money via paypal (donations at ricketyvan dot com) or just hand us stuff when you see us on the road.
